About Nicholas

Writer/Director Nicholas David Brandt originally hails from Tonawanda, NY.  Hollywood Kills was Brandt’s produced screenwriting debut and he acted as a co-producer on the project as well.  He co-wrote The Secret Lives of Dorks for producers Steven Wolfe (500 Days of Summer) and Stephen Israel (Swimming with Sharks).  Dorks received a limited nationwide release through the AMC theater chain. He co-wrote and co-directed the teen thriller Bad Behavior with Lisa Hamil, which had its television premiere on Lifetime Movie Network.  He directed episodes of award-winning web series Bathroomies and Love-Stupid, produced the first season of The Glass Slipper Confessionals, and wrote and produced on its second season.

In addition to his film work, Brandt acted as editor on the Image Comics series The Li'l Depressed Boy from S. Steven Struble and Sina Grace.  He regularly contributed writing for the backup feature Little LDB with art by Scott Arnold.  Arnold and Brandt’s joint venture graphic novel, Joshua Jace: Minimum Wage Henchman, was released in 2019 on comiXology (Amazon’s digital comic book platform) as well as in print by publisher ComicMix.

Brandt wrote the book (with Laura Watkins on music and lyrics) for Comic-Con the Musical, which was chosen to participate in the 2016 ASCAP Foundation DreamWorks Musical Workshop with Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked), Irene Mecchi (The Lion King), and Karey Kirkpatrick (Something Rotten). This musical was also selected for the Apples and Oranges Theater Accelerator program. Their second musical Glass Ceilings was performed in Los Angeles in March 2020 after placing third in New Musicals Inc’s 2019 Search for New Musicals.
