About Rodrigue

Rodrigue Hammal is a Canadian filmmaker with Lebanese and Syrian heritage.
His childhood and teenage years were shaped by the tumultuous times of the Lebanese civil war.
As a queer filmmaker born amidst this backdrop, Rodrigue's experiences have indelibly influenced his perspective on life and storytelling, drawing him to subjects and narratives that delve into the experiences of minorities, mental health, and human struggles.

This passion for authentic storytelling led him to graduate with honors from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts in Beirut, in filmmaking. From there, he dove headfirst into the director's chair, orchestrating an array of projects spanning short films, web series, TV programs, corporate and documentaries.

Fluent in four languages and armed with 18 years of hands-on experience, he's unlocked diverse markets and captivated audiences across the Middle East, the GCC region, North Africa, Europe, and Latin America.

His recent projects, "The Bridge" (a short film) and "Anatomy of a Warrior" (a feature documentary), garnered extensive acclaim at both local and international film festivals.

In 2023, Rodrigue was honored with the Best Screenwriting Award at the NYC Indie Shorts Awards for his work on the short dark comedy “In Her Shoes”. That same year, he also received a prestigious grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, propelling him to develop and write his upcoming feature film: "The Skins That Remain." Additionally, he's dedicated to developing “Blood, Sweat & Tears”, an anthology of shorts focused on and created for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

His upcoming short film "Exception" starring acclaimed actor and Academy Award-nominated producer Waleed Zuaiter, along with Matt Biedel, further solidifies his place as a distinguished talent in the film industry.

Based in Toronto, Canada, Rodrigue Hammal continues to create compelling stories that resonate far beyond the screen, solidifying his place as a distinguished talent in the film industry.
