About A.P.

A.P. Gonzalez is a writer/director/producer currently attached to direct one of his own feature screenplays, Fausto’s Road. He honed his filmmaking skills in San Francisco while founding his own production company, In-Camera Film and Video.

His newest short, "George & Dorothy," (2023) has just begun its festival circuit run, winning 10 awards at international competitions like
One-Reeler, Global Shorts, Best Shorts and The Accolade Global Film Competition.

Winner at various global short film competitions, A.P.'s "The Wetback "(2018) has screened at numerous international festivals throughout the world, including festivals in Madrid, Berlin, Paris, London, Tokyo, Amsterdam, New York, Chicago, Austin, San Antonio, Phoenix and San Diego. In his hometown of Los Angeles, he took home “The Grand Prize Best Narrative Short” at The Golden State Film Festival (2019) and “Best Director Short Film” at The Silicon Beach Film Festival (2019).

His newly restored first indie feature, Clay Farmers, was awarded AFI and Billboard Magazine’s Best-Fiction AVC Award as well as being broadcast internationally by the BBC, TV-3 Barcelona and Canada’s Knowledge Network, among others. Gonzalez is also the recipient of an ALMA AWARD for Mangas, from TV’s FOTO-NOVELA series.

Among other notable works, A.P. has directed Hurricane Party, a 2007-2008 festival circuit success; The Silent Crisis: Diabetes Among Us, a one-hour documentary for The Discovery Channel. In addition, he has produced, written and directed the documentary, Together Against Abuse, for the State of California and has directed 22 shows of Amigos, a bilingual narrative series, broadcast nationally.

Before turning to writing and directing, Gonzalez began his filmmaking career as an editor. Among his many editing credits, A.P. has edited two documentary films for the Names Project: The Inaugural Display of the Quilt; and the ACE Award nominee, We Bring a Quilt. He has also edited the GOLDEN APPLE award-winning documentary, Not All Parents Are Straight.

Although now focusing entirely on his own film/TV career, A.P. Gonzalez has had a distinguished career as a full professor, teaching writing and directing at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television. While at UCLA he was awarded UCLA’s prestigious Distinguished Teaching Award.

Since 2002, A.P. Gonzalez has been a member of The Directors Guild of America. He is actively involved on many DGA committees, including serving 6 years as the co-chair of the DGA’s Latino Committee.
