I have worn so many hats I've lost count. I've been a dancer, actor, hairstylist, office manager, retail manager, parenting instructor/coach, school cook, jazz singer, teacher, parent, theatre director, wild child, and perpetual student -- of both life and academia. And now I really enjoy writing and telling stories. I am fascinated by the human condition, and my stories don't always end in a "happily ever after" because life doesn't always end with a "happily ever after". I like to write about regular people, and give a glimpse into the troubles and joys they encounter. My favorite type of script to write is dramedy because sometimes we need to laugh and cry at the same situation, although I have written psychological suspense as well.
I enjoy writing lyrics to music and rewriting lyrics of known pieces for satire. I love working with actors especially, and helping them explore within the character and the story. There are many methods and techniques for actors to choose from and use, and no one method works for every actor, so it's great to be able to help them find one (or more!) that works for each actor.
I have also performed on stage, both as a dancer and as an actor -- and though my dancing days are behind me, I often take a physical approach to acting which I feel stems from my background in dance.
I spent nearly 15 years behind a chair in a salon, and during that time also did period, comedic, fantasy, and contemporary hair design for stage productions, using natural hair and/or wigs or hairpieces. I have also done a brief stint as a zombie make-up artist!
But perhaps what I am most proud of is my ability to come into a production and help fill in the gaps where needed to get the job done.
