Joseph Akama

BIOGRAPHY
Joseph Akama is a young screenwriter - director living in Yaoundé , Cameroon. Without any academic training in cinema, he was able to build a solid cinematographic culture thanks to the accumulation of films that he never stops consuming. Joseph is also an autodidact who knew how to make with the tools which he had available, in particular learning the rules in screenwriting as well as the fundamentals in directing. After spending three years working as first and second assistant director on 5 different short films, he is the winner of the “10 Jour pour 1 film” competition organized by the “Ecrans Noirs Festival” and the Goethe Institute - Kamerun. His first short film " Western " was awarded as the best film in the competition. In 2020 , still with the support of the Goethe Institute and the “Ecrans Noirs Festival”, Joseph is directing his second short film “ Into the Den ”. 24 years old and Joseph Akama already nourished two dreams ; To establish himself as one of the most influential directors of his generation and to promote Cameroonian and African cinema throughout the world.
