About Joshua

Born and raised in a small town in South Carolina, the birthplace of sweet tea and early onset diabetes, Joshua L. Myers grew up with parents who, though divorced, were able to agree on surrounding him with powerful images of the Black rights movement. His father, who considered himself “Black Panther adjacent”, made certain to instill in his son a sense of pride for his heritage. The type of pride that helped him navigate his adolescence when being told he wasn’t “Black enough” — because apparently a lack of basketball skills and speaking too properly doesn’t scream Negro. Anywho, being one of few Black students in advanced classes at school and having a love of anime helped secure his spot at the cool kids table – NOT – and a love for television led him to move to LA to pursue a TV writing career.

Before moving, Josh graduated with a degree in Public Health from Coastal Carolina University and got a job at a health insurance company to appease his parents who wanted their son to pursue a “normal” career. Parents, right? But this type of mundane life was never good enough. After following his dream and making the jump to LA, he hit the ground running, finding a mentor in Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia and HBO’s Insecure writer Mike Gauyo, and managed to get a job as a production assistant on Insecure, a major step forward in the career he wanted. As a drama writer, Joshua hopes to craft stories that will spark important conversations, provide a few well-needed laughs, and, who knows, maybe makes things a little easier for the next Black kid whose told he watches too much TV.
