About Harvey

A native of the south side of Chicago’s Chatham community and Princeton Park, Harvey Pullings, Jr (born Feb. 14th, 1986) is an independent filmmaker, photographer and writer. A graduate of Columbia College Chicago, and Moraine Valley Community College, his thematic preferences in cinema are focused on perspectives of the “common man’s turmoil," the struggles of identity, the effects of a father's legacy and the impact on children, as well as race relations and violence. Pullings grew up in a household of film lovers and religious, blue collar workers. A middle class upbringing that made his perspective of inner city life a humble and warm look, amidst the obstacles of different colors and classes.

Documentary by 360Chicago / John Hancock Building Creator/ Creative Director / Writer Co-Produced by myself and 360Chicago, 3 of 77 was conceived as a documentary that explores small businesses, the people and defining culture - of 3 of Chicago's historic neighborhoods. Covering the communities of Bronezeville, Lakeview and Pilsen. • The Culture

    The Culture (2021 - 2022)
Print by 360Chicago Photographer / Creative Director The second part of 3 of 77 - The Culture was designed to immortalize the people of the community, through historical and cultural representation. Chicago is both a beautiful and segregated city, with so much of its character derived not only from its born residents - but also the people that migrate to the city and bring a variety of cultures within them to our homes. Each photograph taken in this series, was intended to represent the neighborhood and its people - to preserve the history of the area. The images were then digitally painted to create a sense of texture and timelessness - within its presentation of the human representatives.

  • People of the Concrete

    People of the Concrete (2020 - 2021)
Print by 360Chicago Photographer My very first photo gallery on a large platform - People of the Concrete was exhibition of street photography, from my time living on the Southside of Chicago, all the way to 2020. Many of the pieces were featured in my self published book - Chi-People, but this event ran for the public through the majority of Summer 2021.

  • Apart, Together

    Apart, Together (2021)
Print by 360Chicago Photographer My debut project with 360Chicago, Apart, Together was a collaborative exhibition of visuals taken during the Covid pandemic in Chicago. A variety of photographers were selected and presented, and I had the honor to be amongst the creatives for this presentation, during one of America's most challenging periods. My three photos were selected as an example of humanity and candid living - during a time when masks and health concerns outweighed any other priorities we could possibly face. This also marked my first time being covered in the media - as I was interviewed by Fox32, and NBC.

  • Chi-People

    Chi-People (2020)
Print by Independent Photographer | Editor Chi-People was a self published collection of my photography, collecting several visuals from around Chicago. I released the book in two editions around the time of People of the Concrete (my photo exhibit) being in development. Both editions were a domestic success, and helped my broaden an audience of my subject matter.

  • No Place Like Home

    No Place Like Home (2018)
Print by Independent Director / Photographer The first photo gallery I ever put together was an independent endeavor (100% out of pocket). I titled it No Place Like Home, because at the time - Street Photography and cinema for me was all focused on life in Chicago. It was a celebration and acknowledgment to my creative endeavors and experiences here in the city - and the showcase was all things "312." The showcase was a two day event, with the first day being a photo gallery - and the second being a screening of To Those with Good Intent. Held in the neighborhood of Lakeview, proceeds from the show went towards a future project I was working on at the time (which would become That Boy Across the Street).
