Tom grew up in Southern Illinois but currently lives in the West Hills of Southern California's San Fernando Valley. He has a PhD specializing in nineteenth and twentieth-century American literature and film adaptation from Claremont Graduate University. For many years, he taught college classes across Southern California with an emphasis on screenwriting, film, and public speaking. In addition to his own personal fiction and screenwriting, he wrote academic articles such as "Sentimentalizing Daisy For The Screen" (a study of Daisy's character in different film adaptations of The Great Gatsby published in the 2014 F. Scott Fitzgerald Review). One of Tom's hobbies is bartending, and his most widely-read work is The Home Bar Guide To Tropical Cocktails, a co-written book published in 2019 by Korero Press with his good friend and fellow bartender, Kelly Reilly.
