After a series of attempts on their lives and those closest to them, two wise-cracking mismatched private investigators must find out who from their past is seeking revenge before the last joke is played on them.

SYNOPSIS:

Wise-cracking, mismatched buddies Tom Ashburn and Matt Allen are partners in the AA Detective Agency who, along with their girlfriends and secretary/receptionist, survive numerous attempts on their lives by Mel Moyer and his wife Donna. Targeted also is about the evolving relationships between Tom and Matt as well as with their girlfriends and secretary Barb Duncan plus the dysfunctional relationship between the Moyers.

The Moyers hold a big grudge because Tom discovered that Mel embezzled two million dollars from the electronics company where he was CFO. Mel recently was released from prison and he and Donna are trying to murder Tom and Matt along with Barb and their girlfriends Sue Robbins, an orthopedic surgeon, and Danielle Bisset, a sculptor and painter.

Tom and Matt investigate a rogues gallery including slimy used car dealer Luke Nash, bartender Biff Benson, corporate executive Vince Granger and the worst of all, Ben Hammer. He is a violent sociopath turned minister who once stalked and attacked their client Alicia Mendez with a chainsaw. While great friends, their differences in approach – sloppy Matt is instinctual and neat freak Tom is analytical – create tension between them as they track their assassins and have both of them pondering a career change.

Tom belatedly discovers that he had overlooked Mel Moyer on his database, but they run into a series of dead ends and false leads trying to track down the Moyers.

Because they can’t find the Moyers, Tom and Matt induce them to come to them. Mel senses a trap, but Donna insists they blow up the detective agency office with dynamite. It is a trap and with Tom and Matt temporarily disabled by tear gas dispensed by Donna, Barb proves the heroine in capturing the Moyers.

The Moyers then dime out Biff Benson the bartender Tom had ruled out as a suspect, saying Benson hired them as assassins because Tom was closing in on his financial identity theft. Benson arrives in a van with Sue and Danielle in the back – along with a bomb. When Benson insults Donna, she grabs Barb’s assault weapon and shoots him. Tom gets the girlfriends out of the van just before the bomb explodes.

Afterwards, Tom decides to become a minister after being crucified by the Moyers and Matt decides to become a mortician because of his fascination with cemeteries – leaving Barb to helm the private detective agency.

Their lives seemingly have moved on … but while they are all frolicking at the beach, they are attacked by scuba divers with spear guns.
