About Morgan

Morgan Morris is an unhealthily obsessive devotee of cinema and television. Like people slow step away when he starts talking about films. Because, as they know, he'll talk their ears off about the works of his current filmmaking crushes. Morgan is drawn to the auteurs, especially those who have worked in television. (The superheroes have co-opted the cinemas for now.) These are filmmakers with unique visions, and include the likes of Steven Conrad (of 'Patriot' and 'Perpetual Grace Ltd') Noah Hawley (perhaps unrecognised, but "Fargo' rocks!), Barry Jenkins, Hiro Murai, Reed Morano and Jean-Marc Vallée (who sadly passed away recently).

But, at 56, Morgan is also a novice to the industry. He started (but hasn't yet finished; thanks, Covid) a master's in documentary filmmaking at the University of Cape Town a few years ago. There's a thesis film outstanding, but that's only because, as he's told himself, Morgan is trying to shoehorn as much filmmaking into his filmmaking career as he can. He's currently working on his first two short films, both documentaries, while solo-workshopping a feature-length doccie about masculinity and violence in local communities in South Africa. Morgan is also writing a couple of screenplays, including a series that he's described as a "parable about modern South Africa. With zombies". And he's got notes for a screenplay for a black 007 - yep, he's going there.
