About JJ

Hi everyone !

I'm a Taiwanese animation film director who's born in Paris, in France (I know, nobody's perfect ^^) and raised in Brussels, Belgium (which self deprecating humor kinda alleviates the typical arrogance from Parisians, so yes, I'm still a nice guy, phew...).
As a 2D animation film director, I'm a bit of a Jack of all trades : Not only do I know how to direct, but I also know how to storyboard, animate, do compositing, and edit. I'm quite good at all of these, although I wouldn't say I excel at any one of them (Storyboard and 2D compositing are probably my 2 main strengths in there). Although I'm fairly new at scriptwriting (but trying to get in there for my own budding first TV series project), from my own experience and instincts (the 2 have melt a bit down together, lately) I do have a good knack for being a good story advisor, as I usually have good feedbacks on other people's stories or cuts. Now, if only I was as good on my own stories, though... ^^

Unique traits: As an animation film director who's on the fence between western medias and eastern medias, I've watched countless animated movies both from America, France, Japan, and China, and has been highly influenced by chinese traditional paintings, so my animation style very much tries to blend the aesthetic and philosophy of chinese paintings and culture with the dynamism of modern animation. As an avid fan of martial arts movie from the golden age of HongKong in the 80's and 90's, I also have a good sense of fight choreographies, and storytelling through fights scenes. Although I'm not all about jumping and kicking, as I mentioned earlier, I'm very much a proponent of Asian philosophies and arts, and they value the importance of silence. So I very much would prefer to make calm movies and stories that have occasionaly one or several sparse beats whose impact is all the more stronger, due to all the calmness surrounding it. After all, the most beautiful notes of music always come out from silence.
