Jessica Niemi

Screenwriter and screenplay reader based in San Diego, California. My goal is to make movies from the scripts I've written, help others improve their scripts, and learn on-set in all types of production work. From an early age I fell in love with stories, theater, and film, especially the classics. As an economic and small business developer I also fell in love with the industry and the ripple effect it has in personal lives and for a community as a whole. As a kid I would write, direct, and act in short plays with my cousins and perform, "dinner shows," for my family. My earliest experiences focused on acting through theater, extra roles in features, student, and independent films. As a student I dabbled in audio, lighting, props, and directing. My business and corporate background leans heavily in project management, financial analysis, and data synthesis. I have experience in fundraising, music and educational event production. It's my goal to use these transferrable skills as a film producer.

Recently (2020) I found my passion and started writing scripts. I discovered the value of reading scripts to support the development of my script writing skills in 2022 when I participated in the Hollywood Screen Readers program with Carolyn Carpenter. I'll be reading scripts and providing coverage for the 2024 Austin International Film Festival. As a Q&A panel moderator at the 2023 San Diego International Film Festival, it was rewarding to meet the filmmakers, learn about them, their process, and be part of supporting their journey of bringing their film to an audience.

I have a heart of service. As an academic tutor and small business loan underwriter it was rewarding to serve and support my students/clients in their work of creating and building. Both acknowledging their effort and triumphs and offering questions and practical applications on how to elevate their work to the next level ensured a comprehensive and meaningful approach. I look forward to providing similar services to the script writers that hire me to provide coverage for their screenplays. I enjoy all genres and specialize in true stories, dramas, documentaries, rom-com, and sci-fi.
