About Ben

A Los Angeles-based director and writer, Ben’s currently in post production on his latest short film, Hashtag. The science fiction thriller stars Gigi Edgley (Farscape, Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge) as white-hot social media maven "X". X is the leading online celebrity in a near-future world dominated by technology and social media. Hashtag features great performances, futuristic production design, and top-of-the-line visual effects to bring Ben's vision to life.

Ben's last short film, Cowboy Creed, was nominated for two festival awards and is now available to watch online. An ambitious mini epic, the Western tale features classic period action and adventure complete with dusty heroes, deadly villains, gunplay, horses, and fisticuffs.

Ben began his film career as a visual effects artist and as a director and producer of industrial films. After its festival run and a limited theatrical release, his first narrative short film, the heartfelt drama Silver Lining, was signed into broadcast on PBS and Movieola, and into distribution with Ouat Media. Brought onto the award winning Star Trek: Phase II/New Voyages, he became the series second unit director for episodes “Blood and Fire” Part 1 and Part 2, “Enemy: Starfleet", and "The Child”. He also directed the second unit for the forth-coming feature-length documentary American General. In 2010, Ben was co-executive producer on the family adventure series eScape v1.0. A character actor on occasion, Ben starred as the “adorably incompetent” alien starship captain Zerks in the 2009 sci-fi comedy Web series Zerks Log.

Unique traits: I'm a distributed writer/director and was a visual effects artist for many years. I have experience shooting on film and digital and my background gives me unique insight into our increasingly visual effects-heavy industry.
