My name is Chavis Carter and I strive to excel in all my endeavors. My passion lies within the realm of mass communications. Whether I’m covering news, sports, or various other activities and events I love to be that medium and source of new, fun, and informative news.
I graduated from Virginia Union University cum laude in, May of 2009 with a bachelor of arts. Throughout my undergraduate education I developed my production skills and ability to capture life through a lens.
Starting my junior year of undergrad at Virginia Union University I began working as production assistant at WTVR-CBS6. At the same time I picked up a job with VUU’s athletic department as the sports videographer. Later on in my pursuit of higher learning I worked for Henrico County Public Schools as a seasonal sports videographer.
Currently, I am employed as the Chief Photographer at WVIR-NBC29 located in Charlottesville, VA. When I am not working at WVIR I spend my time on the field at James Madison University. There I work as the sideline camera operator for home football games.
In an effort to better develop the craft of writing I decided to pursue higher education. I will soon have a master’s degree from Full Sail University with a concentration in new media journalism.
My aspirations are to obtain a career in the realm of mass communications with your organization. It is my goal to further develop my abilities, not only a photojournalist but, as reporter, public relations rep, and distributor of information to the masses via the television and/or online media outlets.
My lifelong goal and current side hobbies involve me working towards providing professional coverage of Division II athletics to desired viewers. I also strive to aid future and current mass communications students at my alma mater, Virginia Union University. In the mean time I will continue to be a husband, father, Man of God, and the best provider for my family that I can be.
