About Maura

Maura Campbell is a writer and disability advocate based in Northern Ireland.

She is one of the participants in The Writers Lab UK & Europe 2023 and was selected for BBC Writers Room NI’s Hothouse 2021 Programme.

Her first short film Copy That (dark comedy) was supported through Northern Ireland Screen’s New Shorts Focus Programme 2019/20 and her second short By Appointment (drama) was funded through their 2022 short film call. She is one of the alumni of their New Writer Focus Programme, and they provided development support for her feature screenplay Unspoken.

Maura’s first Irish language short film is due to go into production in early 2024, supported by the DLR First Frames Scheme.

Maura’s broadcast credits include audio drama Brave (2023), BBC Radio 4’s Four Thought programme (2018) and BBC Ouch show Tales of the Misunderstood (2017).

Maura has also written for a wide range of autism and disability publications. She is co-author of Spectrum Women – Walking to the Beat of Autism (2018), Spectrum Women – Autism and Parenting (2020), and The Neurodiversity Reader (2020). Her latest book Just the Job, a light-hearted guide to working in an office for autistic employees, is due for publication in June 2024.
