Dr. Melanie LaForce is a screenwriter, comedian and social psychologist. She has written feature essays and humor for The Washington Post, Marie Claire, McSweeney’s, and New York Magazine. She has trained with and performed improv, sketch, and stand-up at institutions such as The Groundlings, Upright Citizen’s Brigade, Second City Chicago, and Flappers.
In 2018, LaForce’s indie coming-of-age humor essay collection, Corn-Fed: Cul-de-sacs, Keg Stands, and Coming of Age in the Midwest received accolades from publications such as Refinery29 and BUST.
LaForce is a polyamorous queer woman. Growing up in a Midwest church-focused community, LaForce channels her perspective to create relatable characters struggling with the stigma of polyamory, being queer, or just being curious about sex. Her pilots are based on her real-life experiences.
LaForce was also Principal Scientist at the University of Chicago for 12 years, and taught social psychology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. She is a highly-skilled, experienced leader, public speaker, and colleague, having overseen all aspects of multi-million dollar federal grants. She currently lives in upstate New York and L.A.
