About Hannah

Hannah Salt is an award-winning UK based scriptwriter and playwright, named one of Prolific North’s Top 50 Northern Scriptwriters 2018:

‘I’ve grown up in Salford, Manchester at the knees of great storytellers, whether they have been in my large, loud extended family or a pub, corner shop, football match, bus stop. We talk a lot here, and I’ve always listened. I like to explore life’s sharper edges, and find the stories in the crevasses of people’s daily lives, under the fingernails of people you think you’ve got figured out.

I found my voice as a writer by putting a megaphone to unheard stories, and hidden communities. I was drawn to writing about young people at risk of joining gangs in the diverse district Moss Side in my award-winning fringe play Cornermen, performed in a real working boxing gym. My first short film Bump is about a girl’s social isolation that leads her to steal a baby in a desperate bid for companionship, dressed as motherhood. My most recent short film Rabbit Punch Directed by Keith Farrell of Tile Media takes an unflinching look at a young Congolese boy’s struggle to find a sense of belonging in the UK, it was released in 2018 to acclaim with multiple nominations and wins on the European and International festival circuit. Last year I also wrote a dramatic account of the Irish famine for the Irish Film Board and Museum in the United States, the educational The Hunger Times is now continuously screening in Connecticut and has been made freely available to every Primary school in the Republic of Ireland.

I continue to develop works for short, feature, TV drama and theatre.
