About Hugh

Hugh Blanc is a screenwriter, video editor, director and cinematographer based in BC, Canada.

Hugh is the author of three books. His debut novel, 'Between Bodies Lie', received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews and was Listed a Best Indie Book by both Kirkus Reviews and The Trinidad Guardian. He has also written two non-fiction biographies on Trinidadian painters; 'Louison: His Painted Words' and 'Bryden: The Colour of Memory' which was a BOCAS Lit Fest People's Choice Award nominee. Additionally, he was lead writer / researcher for the news-satire webseries 'Story of the Nation' (SoTN).

Hugh has worked as a video editor for the past 6 years, editing videos for companies such as BP, Scotiabank, Pathways Education, The County of Dufferin among others. He acted as Story Editor on the feature documentary 'To Be a Renegade', an in-depth look at the award-winning steel band orchestra BP Renegades which premiered at the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival.

Hugh recently completed Toronto Film School where he graduated with Distinction and co-produced his thesis short film 'Max & the Showgirl', on which he was also Writer, Director, Cinematographer and Editor. 'Max & the Showgirl' was a semi-finalist in the Lonely Wolf Film Festival and an official selection of Rome Prisma Film Awards, Toronto Lift-off Film Festival, and TFS Festival of Films.

Hugh has a passionate love for film and filmmaking and is eager to collaborate and create.
