About Vanessa

Vanessa Rose is a queer screenwriter and director who enjoys creating magical, subversive stories about dissidents and misfits. She recently graduated with a Masters from the prestigious National Film and Television School out of London, where she wrote two successful animated short films that continue to tour festivals and gather awards, including being BAFTA shortlisted, jury awards from SXSW, TIFF and the Austin Film Festival, and most recently voted a Vimeo staff pick. One of these is in series development with Nexus studios. Additionally, she won an emerging talent award for her play put up in London at Chiswick and Soho Theatres, which is now being funded by the British Film Institute to be made into a film. She recently made it to round 2 of the Sundance Lab for an absurdist apocalyptic feature exploring female desire, and has directed two short films in the last year that are touring internationally.

Drawing from her previous career as a professional dancer, Vanessa brings with her an understanding of creative collaboration, unorthodox narrative, and an enduring fascination with the physical power and limitations of the human body. She writes plays, films, television, and poetry. In her spare time she wonders what profound, philosophical thoughts dogs must be thinking.
