Melissa Jo Smith

Melissa Jo Smith is a writer, visual and textile artist, filmmaker, poet and arts producer. She formerly worked as communications and development manager for a large international voluntary network, and now works in fostering for a local authority. Melissa Jo has lived in Peckham for twenty five years.

Working with schools and community groups, Melissa Jo began developing arts projects to explore history and heritage, out of which sprang Illuminated Arts CIC a community interest company focusing on bringing history and heritage alive through exciting creative projects. Illuminated Arts aims to change people’s perspectives, improve their sense of self, enhance their well-being and generate a sense of belonging and pride that benefits the whole community. Our projects include the Peckham War Horse Project, Hairlooms, Peckham Style, The Hidden History Club, and The Pocket.
