About John

As a passionate and dedicated writer, my hope with this fellowship is to bring elevated, artistic storytelling to the world. Over the past five years, I have written seven spec scripts, each aimed at developing my skills to a professional level. My screenplay "James Justice" has received significant recognition, including winning the First Time Screenwriter award, as well as achieving one Semifinalist and eight Quarterfinalist placements.

My earlier self-published novel, "11:11," provided me the privilege of working with Joshua Malkin and Voyage, leading to the shopping of a pilot and series concept based on my book. Although it was not ultimately picked up, this experience introduced me to the world of screenwriting. I have also collaborated with industry professionals like Dave Trottier and Paul Dinas on my book and script reviews.

Following my experience with Joshua and Voyage, I decided to dedicate my time fully to writing spec scripts. At this early stage in my writing career, my strengths include a hunger for knowledge, a drive to succeed, and an undeniable thirst to learn and grow. I aspire to be the best, or at least highly successful and remembered for my elevated and artistic writing.

I have a deep love for exploring and depicting the human condition. I feel a weird need to elevate our species through story, whether it be in drama, horror, or the many thriller genres available to us. This fellowship presents an incredible opportunity for me to refine my craft, collaborate with like-minded creatives, and bring my unique voice to a broader audience. For this, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity you are providing, should I be selected.

In addition to my screenwriting pursuits, I am a proud father of two wonderful children. My oldest, who is on the autism spectrum (Asperger's) and trans, came into my life twenty-four years ago and transitioned ten years ago. He now enjoys a career as a licensed embalmer. My youngest daughter was recently married last year. My wife runs a non-medical, in-home living assistance business, and I help out when I’m not writing, especially with a remarkable ninety-four-year-old veteran who can run circles around me.

I also enjoy spending time with my plants, caring for the cats that adopted us, and working on my four classic cars.
