Tu Nguyen is a Vietnamese American composer and musician. He is self-taught in the violin and began studying classical sax at 14. After arriving at the University of California at Los Angeles, Tu began studying classical voice performance (and currently sings with the Angeles Chorale) and the erhu, a traditional Chinese, two-stringed, bowed instrument, with renowned erhu master, UCLA Professor Chi Li. Tu's primary interest is in scoring for film and video games and has studied with composer and Ud virtuoso, UCLA Professor Munir Beken. He has also interned with composer and producer, Jed Smith of Betafish Music in Santa Monica, California, and with the Music Creative Affairs Department at Sony Pictures Entertainment in Culver City, California. He graduated Cum Laude in spring of 2010 from UCLA with a B.A. in Ethnomusicology with an Emphasis in Composition and Performance and a minor in Japanese Language.
