Boris Schaarschmidt is a director, producer and writer with 15 well recognized short films – each of which has won numerous awards at several film festivals around the world. As a director, he is armed with not only an incredibly creative mind, but also the theoretical and technical know-how to turn his ideas into film reality.
Achieving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinematography (University of Applied Sciences, Dortmund, Germany) and a Masters of Fine Arts in Directing (American Film Institute, AFI, Los Angeles, USA), has made Boris an expert in many aspects of film production. Being awarded several prestigious scholarships and awards, such as the German Academic Exchange Service Scholarship (DAAD) and the Pat Hitchcock O'Connell Scholarship Award, has given Boris the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in the film industry. One of his most memorable experiences was working on the post-production of Quentin Tarantino's Oscar-nominated film Inglourious Basterds.
Boris' characteristic high production value work is often produced in a very cinematic style, and many of his creations include wide, epic frames and stunning, emotion-evoking immersive landscapes. His fluent pacing, controlled camera movements and extraordinary stories have been recognized as superb by international audiences as well as many experts in the field.
Following the success of his highly acclaimed short film Haleema (2013), Boris is currently working on several creative projects. In addition to working on his own projects, he is also a freelance film consultant, taking on various roles in different productions as well as directing instructor at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.
