"Returning Home" || Ryan Leach Composing Competition Submission…

Finished with all the mixing of my latest album "The Erehwon" and some music assistance work with composer Richard Band to enter another fun little composing contest. ABOUT THE CONTEST Ryan Leach - a working composer for film , television and games - is holding anther composing contest this month (July 2022). THis time its a medieval kids fantasy world (based on the style of the artwork featured in the image provided). We were given the photo featured in the video to which to use as inspriation to compose a 90 second piece of music. It will be judged on composition, relevance to the photo, and production value. ABOUT THE MUSIC I wanted to evoke that small medieval village feel with a slight comical tone mixed with a sense of understated heroism to depict the character returning on the horse. The music introduces this character with the drums, tamborine and strings. The village theme is depicted through bassoon, clarinet, celeste, plucked and bowed string lines. A quick break develops the underated hero theme on drums, tamborine, chimes and violas before returning to a reprise of the village theme. The piece concludes with a strong puncuated statement on timpani, cimes and tamborine. Sense the judges sensibilities lean more for the traditional sounds with some room for exploration (as stated in the last contest video reviews of the finalists), I avoided going too experimental (which is my normal comfort zone) and pulled way back and stuck as much in the traditional realm as possible. I think this has all the classic and standard instrumentations for the type of piece I was going for to evoke the animated medieval fantasy world depicted in the photo. ---------------------------------------- MUSIC PRODUCTION CREDITS Music Composed and Performed by: D4Disgruntled Mixed & Engineered by: D4Disgruntled Artwork by: D4Disgruntled All Intellectual Property, Copyrights and Licenses are owned by: D4Disgruntled VIDEO CREDITS Created & Edited by: D4Disgruntled ---------------------------------------- Also, you can follow me on the below platforms: My Website: https://musicbyd4d.com Bandcamp: D4Disgruntled https://d4disgruntled.bandcamp.com YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIiC... "Storming The Castle" || Ryan Leach Composing Competition…

Taking a quick break from composing my "Erehwon" sci-fi concept soundtrack album to enter this fun little composing contest sponsored by Ryan Leach who is a working composer for film , television and games. I follow his channel and have learned alot from his well done educational videos. We were given the photo featured in the video to which to use as inspriation to compose a 90 second piece of music. It will be judged on composition, relevance to the photo, and production value. ABOUT THE MUSIC While I am sure most will approach the ir entries from a traditional "medievil" feel, I am trying something drastically different.Getting in touch with my 80s synth music sensibilities (which were common place in many lower budget horror and fantasy films) I present this short piece that is influenced by the sound of Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter. The story I imagined behind the photo and the music was an ambush on the castle. I created a repeating motif that cuts through all the drumming, clashing and stacking dissonant chords. This serves to underscore the impending doom of the ambush. Several bursts of a synthy brass line punctuates the successful efforts of the invading army.
