Filmmaking / Directing : Finding Work (Starting Out) by Alexander Fattal

Finding Work (Starting Out)

I recently moved to an area with a fairly active filmmaking community. I am pleased to say I've had a few jobs already and have reached out to the shows that are currently filming in the area. But since most of the shows are wrapping up or are fully staffed, I can only go on their day-player list. I live close enough to Vancouver, BC- which is always busy- but I don't know who to talk to. I got as far as I did here by personally meeting with people at the film office. I know the general rule is "do a good job on your small work so when you happen to work with someone big they remember you."- and I actually have my first "real movie" job that should start filming early next year. But things are moving slowly and I want more experience (and money) in the meantime. So as someone new to the industry, how do you get hired onto other shows without a reputation or major connections?

Answer: Hustle Seems like you're on the right track and ahead of the curve. You should be giving out the advice rather than seeking it :) Remember, nothing happens instantaneously. It takes time and effort.
