red epic
ARRI Alexa.... Black Magic Pocket Camera for under a thousand. Seriously no one can recommend a camera without knowing your budget.
Thank you for your suggestions and comments, it is very much appreciated.
Try before you buy, what cameras have you used on your projects?
I used canon and also a Sony
What models? Start making a list of the cameras/model and features you liked and disliked. Add to that those features you want in your next camera, that should help you narrow the field.
If your in NYC visit B&H Photo. They have a great selection of camera's and helpful knowledge. You get to see the camera's and know what you would need to add too your camera selection to make a film come to life. Best of Luck Lesley
Hi lesley, Thank you for the great info, I am in the city and will visit the store, this is also very helpful, thank you.
if it's for one film, rent.
Rose if you don't even know what camera to choose, you shouldn't be the one shooting the movie!
as a general guideline if you want to make something that looks pretty good, you will want to spend $1000 for the camera body alone - e.g a Canon 70D or Blackmagic Pocket. The $250 cameras have a very small sensor and do not look cinematic at all
Hi David, Thank you for the advise,. How about you shoot the trailer that way I am sure to have something that is pretty good.
Hello Royce, Thank you for the information, this and all is very much appreciated.
I like the Nikon d3200 it's 24.2MP and you can get one off eBay for 299 I did
The only reason to buy a camera for a shoot is if you can rent that camera back to the production so it costs you less. Don't forget you are not just buying a camera, you are buying, tripod, lenses, matt box, follow focus, batteries, memory cards, monitors, cases, the list goes on. If you must buy one, go play with some in the rental house and see what you like (give them something to say thnakyou). It's always a good idea to have a good relationship with a rental house even when you own a camera. As when your camera breaks down on set, you need to replace/fix at you're own cost asap.
Hi Kiam, Thank you for the great information on the camera, it's very much appreciated.
Hi Scott, Thank you for the great advise...
