Webinar coming soon! How to Avoid Mistakes when Packaging Your Film hosted by Gato Scatena, Managing Director or S&R Films!

We are excited to welcome Gato. The most common and financially devastating mistakes that occur during the course of producing a film often take place during casting, but these mistakes are avoidable. In this class we focus on the importance of properly casting your feature films, and delve into the critical aspects of aligning casting decisions with the film's genre and budget, while highlighting the significance of distinguishing between investments that genuinely enhance the production value and those that do not. The curriculum explores the contrast between the impact of casting bankable name actors versus recognizable faces, elucidating how each choice influences the film's global marketability and potential success. Furthermore, the class will guide participants on the strategic selection of crew members and consulting companies capable of offering expert advice in assembling a film package poised for success. This comprehensive approach ensures students understand not only the artistic but also the commercial considerations essential in casting, ultimately empowering them to make informed decisions that align with their vision and financial requirements.

The dividing line between filmmakers who achieve success and those who struggle to recoup their investment often lies in the practice of reverse engineering their projects. Successful filmmakers start with a clear focus on the financial viability of their project, prioritizing how to make it a success in the marketplace, and then meticulously plan every other aspect around this goal. In contrast, less experienced filmmakers may exhibit rigidity regarding their budget and script, coupled with misjudgments in allocating sufficient funds to above-the-line talent or overestimating the value of their desired actors. Crucially, filmmaking is a collaborative endeavor that thrives on the synergy of a well-chosen team. Assembling the right group of advisors, who can pose and address critical questions often overlooked by others, is essential. This strategic approach to film production, emphasizing adaptability, astute financial planning, and collaborative teamwork, is what distinguishes successful ventures from those that falter.

Gato - I appreciate when you and Jordon reached out in 2022 RE: Indie film. I took your webinar today because I remembered your company - especially regarding film projections. If you are open to discussion - I'd love to email you soon regarding a current film in development. https://cryofthethunderbird.com/

Lisa, feel free to email us with budget and talent wish list. Based on the website, it looks like it's a bit outside our wheelhouse currently, though I'm happy to take a look.
