Not any more. "Names" are needed. Sometimes all that's needed is a high concept. But nudity isn't as important as it was in the late '80's early '90's for DTV distribution.
Yep. Because that's what most people ask when the are deciding to pay to watch a movie. Rarely does the general moviegoer ask, "Is there nudity?" - they ask, "Who's in it."
I very much agree with D Marcus' assessment; now it's all about the name power, and of course, a lot of bigger actors now are supporting more local/national productions in between their blockbusters, both to beef up their resumes as well as to gain a certain 'legitimacy' in the profession. People like Gosling and Wasikowska have very much led the charge.
