Financing / Crowdfunding : Brazil finance grant? by Amanda Toney

Brazil finance grant?

I was talking with a producer friend I'm bringing in to teach a webinar on finance structures for us and she mentioned that Brazil has a nice film grant right now - has anyone worked with it? Any insights?

Rodrigo Portela

Yes, it has a strong film grant -- It has many calls in different regions and states. I was able to make a feature film thru one of this calls with a producer -- here's the site, it has an english version:

I found it very difficult without help, it's something that a lawyer finds easier than a filmmaker.

Mission

ANCINE, the Brazilian Film Agency, is a financially and administratively independent government agency, operating under the supervision of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. It was established in September 2001 to contribute to the regulation, promotion and monitoring of the audiovisual industry in Brazil.

ANCINE’s mission is to create equal conditions of competition among economic agents operating in the Brazilian audiovisual sector and therefore to stimulate the development of a strong and sustainable audiovisual industry.

During the TERRIBLE Bolsonaro's administration ( a worse Trump version) , he tried to extinguish it, closing the resourses and let the artists die... I waited 4 years to be able to finish my film.

Okay! Certainly interesting!

Brazil filming / incentives seem a bit more complicated, less straight forward than say Columbia which has a very good incentive, production services, and track record. Look forward to hearing more on this. Thank you!

I forgot to write before, the films enter in a contest for the film grant -- it's not just make the project, you have to be selected for one of the many contests. My next project is a feature and I'm thinking in how to make it viable at the moment.
