If it is for Film... Indiegogo all the way. They have also updated their platform and dropped fees (for a short time). Kickstarter is more successful in the tech sector now, and pre-purchasing...etc....

I am doing the same and I've found that depending on what your subject is, there are some grants available. It's a bit of a search around but perhaps your film will fit into the specific requirements.

if they want you to pay for anything, would avoid. as a writer you shouldn't be sending out fees for a producer to cast your work.
