My name is Josh Blackmon, I am an author and screenwriter. Available on Stage32 at present I have two alternate versions of adaptations of my novel(s). A pilot and a feature film version.
I am planning to expand my portfolio throughout the year, in the meantime I would love to connect with other creators.

Hey, Josh Blackmon. Is your pilot or feature based on your "Roller Derby Vampire Girl" book trilogy?

Hello, Clifford here, I have written a few feature length screenplays and I sold a pilot to an indie filmmaker for a small amount, but I guess that's a start. I would love to connect with you.
Congratulations on selling a pilot, Clifford Stewart Ekolama!!! :D

Maurice Vaughan yes! I took two different approaches. As a standalone film I went the horror comedy route, as suggested through a couple of pitch sessions, and the series pilot sets up a drama with some dark comedic elements that better reflects the tone of the subsequent books in the trilogy.

I love the idea of a Roller Derby Vampire Girl horror comedy! That sounds like it would be up Karina Wilson’s alley - she is a producer in our script services division. I believe she is available for 30 minute calls: https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/coverage/buy?id=19

That's a unique approach, Josh Blackmon. I'm leaning toward the Horror/Comedy approach, but I can see your book as a Drama series with dark comedic elements. Did you have a pitch deck for each (the feature and the series)?

Amanda Toney thank you for the suggestion! That kind of feedback would definitely be beneficial!

Maurice Vaughan the first book is definitely more campy and fun, but the sequels are really more about a personal journey for the characters navigating life after ignorance so it made more sense to me, to establish a more consistent tone for a series pitch. The feature is just straight up vampire derby fun!

I'm excited to see the feature and the show, Josh Blackmon. Have you seen "Whip It"? I picture your feature as a Horror/Comedy version of that.

Maurice Vaughan yes! I actually usually quick pitch it as "Whip it meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
Perfect nutshell, Josh Blackmon!

That's why I'm here as well. I will try to be more active. This site has really helped me grow as a writer. I, too, adapted a book into a film. They always say the movie is so different from the book. I had to learn the hard way why that is true. Once I let go of being faithful to the book, my screenplay was able to soar.

Marcia McNair so very true! It was honestly so much fun to write the adaptations with the freedom of knowing a different medium meant different opportunities to showcase the ideas in the original work.
