Introduce Yourself : Making Progress by John Clive Carter

Making Progress

Hi everyone, hope you're enjoying the weekend. It's been a couple of years since I switched from writing mainly novels to focusing on scripts. It's been a very enjoyable journey and I feel like I'm making progress. I've completed two feature scripts and a TV pilot with show bible/pitch deck, and won a few awards for one of the features. The TV pilot also won a competition where the prize was a professional read-through of the first 15 pages. It was so useful I've organised read-throughs a read-through of the full script next weekend. A lot of it is down to my excellent script group who meet every couple of weeks. It's a scary process at first, but once you get into it, you can learn a lot very quickly.

Congratulations on the progress, John Clive Carter! I've had a few pages read at a table read (mini table read), but not a full script. The mini table read helped my script, so I know a full table read would be really helpful.

John Clive Carter That's fantastic, John. I wrote non-fiction books so my jump into screenwriting is much more difficult for me. I can't help but think and writing in journalism mode. I think you will love the writing community here. And Maurice is the best cheerleader.

Hey there, John!

Congrats on all their success. I wrote my first history book last year and I've been working on this screenwriting project (pilot script for my own TV series) since November 2022. Looking forward to talk to you more. Cheers!

Hi John Clive Carter! Thanks for sharing! What kinds of genres/stories do you like to write?

Your last point is well taken and totally relatable John Clive Carter! It really can be scary to put yourself and your work out there, but after you do it you realize how helpful and empowering it can be!

Hi John Clive Carter , Happy IYW! Read-throughs are such a powerful tool. Is there anything you like best about them?

John Clive Carter

Hi Niki H . I've only had one read-through so far, but what found most useful was how it brought the emotions of the characters to life, so I could see them and adjust the script accordingly.

John Clive Carter

Hi Emily J I tend to write dramas and thrillers most of the time (smart ones, not shoot-em-ups) but I've also done historical.
