Hey, Stage 32 members! I'm a screenwriter in NYC/Bronx. I currently have 10 scripts under my belt - several genres -generally gravitating toward intelligent themes and characters (while still going for fun and marketable plots...both contained and big budget.) Haven't made the first big sale yet, but I have worked on spec for a mainstream producer, and scored 2013 QF wins in both Austin and Page... Would love to connect with more people in the industry, both NYC and CA! Happy to be here on Stage 32. A great community to be a part of...!

Hi Janet, nice to see an ambitious female screenwriter. Looks like you are on your way to success based on your history. Being full of optimism will get you far. It's always glass half full when it comes to this industry otherwise, you just couldn't handle the no's. I've written three scrreenplays, one that I produced on my own and am days away from a distribution deal (fingerss crossed). I wish you the best, let's talk soon.

Jason - Hi! Nice to meet you too! :) Tammy - we'll definitely have to talk. Congrats on producing a film on your own; I have friends and colleagues who have done that, and they tell me it's an absolute b*tch. Oh - and that distribution is a huge portion of getting the attention and buzz that one needs to move forward. And yes...if one doesn't develop optimism and skin of steel, screenwriting isn't for them. It's funny; I don't really think of myself as a female screenwriter (although, of course, I am.) I'm just...a screenwriter. And a pretty driven one at that. (And believe me, I've written fluffy comedies...but my dark stuff can get pretty raw.) Probably not something that would be expected from a female writer, at least in some circles.

I don't think it's all that unusual for female writers to get to that dark place. More and more I am finding that women are behind a good number of so called "dark" projects. I think it's more about a good story to tell dark or light hearted.

Hello Janet! I have recently moved to NYC and am an aspiring actress. It sounds like you have some great ideas and experience under your belt. I hope that we can be in touch!
Hi Lyse - not much to the story, there. That's a predator that's a regular decoration outside a shop in the East Village - one of my favorite areas of NYC. Earlier in my career, my aspirations were more focused on FX...I've always loved great, organic alien designs. So Predator's right up there for me. Although with the original Aliens, some of the Star Wars creatures, etc. :P
Hi Janet, welcome to Stage 32! I also like to use elements of Sci-Fi in my work - though I usually write thrillers and mysteries.
