Hello everyone!
I lost my day job six weeks ago and since then, I've been looking at taking the leap and making a serious run towards my dream of being a writer for television. I know that things are a bit crazy with the strike, but there is plenty I can do to prepare in the meantime.
I'm open to connections and would love advice from those of you who have been on this road before.
Primarily I write mystery/thriller, science fiction/fantasy, and historicals.
I've been a member here for years but not around a whole lot. It's been a long couple of years and a battle with my mental health (still in progress) but I'm doing my best to get myself back to a point where I can follow my dreams.

Sorry you lost your job, Mary Helen Norris. You definitely have the right mindset ("I know that things are a bit crazy with the strike, but there is plenty I can do to prepare in the meantime"). The strikes won't last forever. The writers and actors who are getting ready now will have the advantage when the strikes are over.

Hi, well done for taking the leap and deciding to jump in to this pool of creativity! I had a similar journey here, joined some time ago but life just keeps...happening sometimes and only when it all comes to an abrupt halt do we take a moment to think, no, I'm going to do what I REALLY want to do. It's exciting, after skirting at the edge of the pool to finally just get in. I look forward to seeing what you develop, wishing you the very best. Developing you projects, is developing yourself in my opinion, enjoy the process.

I know things are at a standstill now. But will say, still waters are sometimes easier to navigate. Plot a deliberate course, and move forward. Best of luck and don’t forget to enjoy the journey.

Business may be at a standstill, Alec, but no one is limiting your ability to create, network, and, if searching, get your work in front of reps. So there is still much one can control during this time including getting in the best position possible for when the gates open again. Which is why your perfectly stated "Plot a deliberate course, and move forward" resonates.
This is such an uplifting and positive thread. I appreciate all of you bringing the sunshine and positivity.
