I finished my first screenplay and would like to enter it into a couple competitions. One gives specific instructions to not put my name on the title page. The other competition gives no such instructions. Is it pretty much standard to not put the writer's name on the title page for competitions? Thanks.

It is, Carol. It's pretty standard. The reason being they don't want a name attached to the script. It's a way to ensure the writing is judged on its merits alone.

Thanks, Alister. I figured that would be it, but as someone who is still new, I wanted to make sure.

Hi Carol Preflatish! For many competitions, this is standard and I would make a habit of it. Many competitions will also remove title pages to be safe. If it doesn't specifically state not to include your name on the title page and you submit it with your name on it, don't worry, they're not going to disqualify you

I may be a bit paranoid, but my concern is, if your name is nowhere on the script, is it possible it could be stolen?? I do have it copyrighted through the US Copyright office, but not through any of the guilds.

Thanks, Marian. Hopefully, copyrighting will be enough.

If you have it copyrighted Marian Betts, then you're fine, but even without that when you submit you give all your contact info to a contest. There's a trail. You have a confirmation email. If someone were to steal it (which is HIGHLY unlikely - and has never once happened through any Stage 32 contest, I can assure you), you'd be able to prove it.
