Looking for Adaptation Suggestions

Hey everyone! I've been doing a lot of book reading recently. I'm always interested in the way stories are interpreted and how movies/TV translate existing IP. Who's got suggestions for me? Fiction please (can include comics - you know I love those!)

Efrain Perez

The outsiders was a great book and movie. Stay gold pony boy

Emily J

If you haven't watched it already, POOR THINGS is fantastic :)

Niki H

Efrain Perez The Outsiders! One of the best. Poor Things is on my list, Emily!

Michelle Prostrollo

Have you read ‘The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon’?

I have been thinking about this for an adaptation because I loved reading the story. I can imagine it. Stephen King stories are awesome on screen.

Ashley Renee Smith

Niki H have you read and watched either Paper Girls (originally a comic by Image and then adapted into a series on Amazon) or Daisy Jones and the Six (a novel adapted into a series by Amazon)? I HIGHLY recommend both! Also the Locke and Key comics by Joe Hill that were adapted into a 3-season series on Netflix.

Dan MaxXx

Im always interested in behind the scenes/ how & why a book is made into a movie, and the ppl behind making the movie.

I liked the movie "Arrival", based on a book written 25-years ago. The screenwriter was in high school when the book was published, won a bunch of book awards & studios bought the movie rights but nobody could ever make the movie.

25-years after published, the author (I think) gave the movie rights for free to the screenwriter. No one knows if the author loved, liked, or hated the movie. He's never talked publicly. The screenwriter basically changed the ending.

Ashley Renee Smith

I didn't know that about Arrival, Dan MaxXx, thats so interesting!

Ashley Renee Smith I was very angry on Paper Girls not being renewed, I think the season could have been better but it had such potential. Paper Girls was one of the first comics we read in the Women's Comic Book Reading Club I was in. It was loved or at least highly respected by everyone. Daisy Jones is on my list (honestly I'm a little afraid I'll become obsessed). I haven't looked at the Locke & Key comics. I wasn't that drawn into the show but perhaps I should give the first trade a shot!

Niki H

Dan that is so interesting, I didn't know that story! I love hearing about people's connections to a book and the journey's taken to get a movie made.

Ashley Renee Smith

Niki H, completely agree on Paper Girls! It wasn't perfect, but it deserved a second season and I was excited to see what they would do next. As for Daisy, it was one of my favorite books that I've read in a LONG time and I was so impressed with the adaptation. I still can't stop listening to the music all these months later. Locke and Key took me a few episodes to get hooked, but I thought the series just got better with each season and it ended well.
