Hello there! My name is Adam and I've been a member of Stage 32 for some time now. The only issue is that I haven't been quite consistent due to homelessness, living in shelters, and trying to survive different threats over the past nine months. I thought my troubles were over when I booked a bus ticket to Toronto, ON, Canada so I could visit my best friend and her daughter but the moment I got to the border, they denied my entry into the country for vague reasons (although they mentioned that I didn't have a visitor visa, which is my fault) and sent me to Buffalo, NY, where I've been for a few weeks.
Long story short, my best friend, who happens to live in Canada, told me to stay in Buffalo since I'm near Toronto and claimed there were "plenty of opportunities for screenwriters like me" but, so far, I'm not convinced. If anyone here knows where an amateur screenwriter such as myself can find these supposed opportunities in Buffalo, NY, then please let me know. It's either I find them here or I create a fundraising campaign and use the money to move to NYC because I know that city will have the opportunities for sure.
Overall, thank you for your help in advance :)

Hi, Adam Washington. Sorry you've been going through all of that. Stage 32 has a Job Board you can check for jobs (www.stage32.com/find-jobs). It's updated regularly.

Maurice Vaughan Thank you for your kind words and for letting me know about the job board. I'll check it out this week and see if I'll be a good fit for whatever they're offering. I'm just hoping I can obtain something and raise enough money to move to NYC. That's the final destination for me and it has been a dream of mine since the 2000s.

You're welcome, Adam Washington. Hope you find jobs! And here's a blog that'll help you connect with creatives and industry professionals (www.stage32.com/blog/the-importance-of-community-and-collaboration-in-th...). You never know what a connection can lead to.

That's definitely the plan, Maurice Vaughan and thank you for the blog. It was really insightful and I'm always down to connect with other people on here. I haven't been all that consistent with this site but I'm willing to change that.

You're welcome, Adam Washington. I wasn't that consistent with Stage 32 either, but it's been night and day since I started being consistent.

How are you consistent, Maurice?

Hi, Jon Shallit. I'm active in the Lounges and Blogs every day. I also attend Stage 32 live events, Writers' Room events, and webinars as much as possible. And I'm constantly sending messages/replying to messages. I also use other Stage 32 features on a regular basics, like the Loglines section and Browse Members section.

When do you sleep and write? LOL!

Haha I get up early in the morning to write, Jon Shallit. I also write when I take breaks from Stage 32 and other things throughout the day. My sleep schedule varies.

Amazing. But I am almost 73 with long covid. Can't do the social media/ publicity thing and write and have a family life and try to get work and all the other things I am expected to do as if I am still 20. But that's what is expected.

That's fine too, Jon Shallit. You could still be consistent with small goals like sending two network requests and commenting on one post a day. You could add more to that if you want later on if you get the time.

Working on a video game script-so far 54000 words-like 3 full features...writing 2 ghost written books. Rewriting a full feature with help from Philip Lee, an amazing talent. Answering ads for work. Helping wife with a real estate career. Helping her with English. Trying to walk at least an hour a day. Working on documentary series on longevity and health span as a writer. That's not half of it. Social media may be the path to more work, but it seems it's not my nature. Sigh. But I can write like a demon. But not shmooze on here very well. But thanks, Maurice, for your advice!

You're welcome, Adam Washington. You're doing a lot! Best to you with everything! And if you do start using social media more, I suggest figuring out a social media schedule that works best for you. You might have to constantly adjust it. And one thing I do that might help you is mix social media with other things so I get everything done, like checking Stage 32 while commercials are on.

Well, I'm not sure if I am doing a lot but I'm trying my best and that's all we can do, right? And yeah, I've been using social media, especially these obscure apps like Threads, but it's mostly for promoting my other kinds of content like YT Shorts or even TikToks. I might have to start promoting my screenwriting work like I have in the past on Twitter (before Musk bought it, unfortunately) but I'm not sure who'll be interested.

I promote my scripts on Twitter/X, Adam Washington. I post loglines, script pages, and pages from my pitch decks. I've gotten interest in my scripts from other writers, producers, directors, and actors, and I've had script requests.

That sounds like a good idea to me Maurice Vaughan. The only issue is that no one really engages with my work on there and I have about 790 followers. Now, I've gotten views on Threads and IG but I'm not sure if these are appropriate for promoting my own scripts. We'll see though. I'll definitely try my hand at promoting my short film scripts on Twitter/X and see what happens.

I had the same problem on Twitter/X, Adam Washington. I started networking with more producers, directors, etc. and got more interest and script requests. I also promote my scripts in the Stage 32 Your Stage Lounge and on IG.

Okay, I see how Twitter/X would be useful to promote scripts and other cool stuff like that. I think I do have some screenwriters, producers, and even directors still following me on there so I'll try my hand with sharing stuff that I'm working on with them. And that's a good idea too. I actually made a post on Your Stage about my most recent logline and thanked everyone who rated it. IG's definitely next on the list to promote my work. Thanks for the advice!
