Putting your work out there.

Hi everyone, my is Betty. Sometimes I get really nerves when I have to share my work. Like you start playing this doubting game. Should I put my work out there or should I not? Do you guys experience that as well?

My sister, I call her my number one fan. She usually proof reads my work, then I proof read and proof read and proof read. Until I look at the work and start playing the doubting game. Should I share or keep this. But I decided to take a chance. A step to share my work, so I uploaded two scripts. Hoping to gain feedback, connect and continue growing as a writer and scriptwriter.

Hey, Lungile Betty Mzizi. I do that sometimes ("Should I put my work out there or should I not?"). At some point, writers just have to share their work. The greatest script in the world can't be read and sold if it's not shared. :)

I suggest registering your scripts with the Copyright Office in your country or the U.S. Copyright Office before sharing them though (www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-protect-your-script-from-theft-3210).

I wrote my first script and submitted it to one place so far. I'm waiting for the result of that one place before sending it elsewhere. This way, I feel at least some semblance of assurance that I would know of any breaches in confidentiality and integrity of the script. But that's my personal approach as a new script writer.

I think all new writers have a little doubt to start with. Believe me, I sat at my computer with my first book manuscript ready to email to a publisher. I finally just told myself to take a chance, and I hit enter. It was rejected, but I didn't stop, and I now have twelve published books.

Anyone who says they like being judged is lying. So don’t think that you will be judged, think of it as sharing. You are sharing part of yourself with the world.

How does this help. When to start with, you cannot be wrong. You are you, and you cannot get you wrong. Sure you can improve in craft and story telling, but that comes with practice.

A good tool is readthrough.com upload your PDF and you will hear it being read. You can use it with your sister and put notes in the screenplay for each other to read. Having a machine perform it, is a way of hear how the world will hear it.

Very relatable feelings, Lungile! The nice thing about Stage 32 is that the community is supportive and we’re all going through a lot of the same experiences and feelings as writers. I’ve found a lot of creative inspiration from folks I’ve met on this platform. Happy writing!

Hi everyone, thank you so much. From every conversation, I am learning a lot and gaining amazing advice. To everyone, to not stoping, to not giving up, and sharing you're amazing stories. As well as, to growing and having more conversation like this. All the best everyone

You're welcome, Lungile Betty Mzizi. Best to you as well.

Lungile Betty Mzizi well, I suppose it depends on what you are writing it for. Are you doing it just for yourself - then there’s no pressure - or writing it because you want to sell it, and see it produced? If it’s the latter then I’m afraid you have to put it out there. Yes, we all have nerves about sharing our baby, but show it to people you trust, who know how to read a screenplay.
