Screenwriting : Celebrating a completed first draft by Kerry Douglas Dye

Celebrating a completed first draft

Pardon the shameless "Like" bait, but I had to share. After 3.5 years on a rigorous Daddy track, squeezing in an hour here and there of bleary-eyed writing, I've finally finished my first first draft since 2011. Oof. That's a long time between completed screenplays. Needless to say, this one still has a long way to go (even a 3-year-old first draft is a First Draft), but I'm enjoying the long-deferred sense of accomplishment. Now on to peer review, so I can hear how God-awful my fledgling masterpiece is. :)

Shawn Speake

Congrats, Kerry!

Pierre Langenegger

Great news, Kerry. It's always good to complete a script.

LindaAnn Loschiavo

Kerry, thanks for sharing -- and we all wish you much success.

Bruno Machado Gomes

Congratulations abd thanks for sharing!

K Kalyanaraman

Kerry, good of you and strong of you to persevere till you break the ice! All the best.

Paul Mortsolf

That feeling you get when the first draft is done is magical. No matter how long it takes.

@Jim, yeah, I finished my last spec when my wife was at 7 months pregnant. And this next one when my daughter was nearly 3 and a half.

LindaAnn Loschiavo

Those little kiddies are going to be awfully proud of Daddy. Bravo to you!

Anthony Cawood

Well done Kerry!

Peter Elliott

In American Screenwriters I believe it was Barry Morrow, who wrote Rain Man, who said he got up and wrote from 330-630 every morning for a year before he finished, while working 9-7 every day as an attorney. That's discipline. Good job and good luck!
