Evidently I wasn't very clear in that post so I'll try once again. I'm looking for a near professional quality character driven short script (short = 10+/- pg) based on overcoming a personal grief theme. I've given you a story line: A father's only teen daughter dies as a result of a school shooting. Show me his character arc as he gets over it (or not). The challenge is pretty straightforward and simple – you can do this or you can't.
What's in this for me? I'm an old retired guy; retirement is boring (being cooped up during this little Covid matter doesn't help) – so I've decided to do something about when I can get out of the house. I'm in a dying little clear-cut timber town where economic opportunities are few, so I'm going to try to do something about that. I have enough equipment for a strong 4K production (including a green screen and a studio) along with enough spare change laying around to pull it off. What I'm lacking is a crew so that's my main focus right now. Between now and Jan 1st I'm going to do my damnedest to recruit half a dozen or so determined/dedicated local folk and provide them with as professional a filmmaking experience as we can so they can move into the filmmaking industry, however it evolves.
What's in this for you? This will be a professional level production, or it won't exist – it's all or nothing. If it works, the finished film will be exhibited in as many of the top tier film festivals (at no cost to you) that accept it. If it does not work, you retain full and complete rights to your script that should meet/exceed full commercial standards. There is no money to be made in short films, only cost to make 'em so I'm not going pay you or offer to buy your script. You do this for yourself, or you don't.
Should you decide to participate in grand experiment, send me an invite here on S32 that includes the logline and page count after Christmas and before Jan 1st I'll send you my email address - remember that nothing is carved in stone because I don't even know if I can assemble a crew.

@Doug this is cool idea, I’m already on it.
“I’m in a dying little clear cut timber town” @Doug great expression to be used in some relevant script. Some of us have even felt same way in big cities. Hope your crew gets lit for this film.
Claude - I'm desperately trying to develop a functional/cohesive crew out here in the shallow end of the talent pool. I have all the equipment, including a fully equipped studio, that it takes to produce a good quality 4K film. I also have access to a regional cable network for distribution. I do have Actors available and willing but I just DON'T HAVE a crew. Obviously nothing is going to happen until this little Covid matter is resolved: I have the time, money, equipment and Actors... I just don't have a crew.
Not so minor when you realize that in order for our economy to recover, there will be lots of jobs available but nobody skillful enough to fill them. Who's gonna make your script into a movie if there's no one knowledgeable?
That is a great retirement plan!
@Doug Play the waiting game with this cool idea and opportunity for others to showcase their artistic talent, as you state (albeit in different words) world's in a climate of fear right now. There's probably crew "itching to go" yet waiting in the wings cos now it's Russian Roulette which air you breathe, you got studio, equipment and years of knowledge. I reckon in this "Cold War of Covid" folk should remember words of Winston Churchill. "Give Us The Tools And We Will Finish The Job." @All Stay Safe!
A preferred genre? May help people.
Maybe you should make it a contest
So, it appears that we have arrived at the appointed time for submitting scripts for this project?
Yes Richard, we have arrived at the appointed time. Unfortunately this little Covid cloke has made it difficult/impossible to move forward. The entire project is on an indefinite hold at this time - maybe later in the year.
Tully, it's all in Limbo right now.
Hello Doug... I do have a self driven crime revenge script.... BUT it is not low budget. There is a Korean war scene in it. My main character wants to commit suicide when his family is killed in a botched robbery but decides revenge is better. GO FOR IT. About 94 pages copyrighted. I wish somebody would help decide what to do with it and the other 8 story lines I have... Bob pops12@netptc.net
Hi Doug! I sent you a message. We should talk! Best wishes, Bec
