Screenwriting : LGBTQ Writer/Director by David Au

David Au

LGBTQ Writer/Director

Hi all,

My name is David, and I'm a filmmaker here in LA. I'm new-ish here on Stage32 and it's been inspiring to read about everyone's work. To tell you a little about myself: I directed my first queer feature film "Eat With Me" (which I co-wrote with my writing partner/husband Mark). It was premiered at L.A. Film Festival in 2014. It's a foodie dramedy about an Asian American woman who reconnects with her estranged gay son through food and cooking.

Here's a trailer:

Since then, Mark and I have been focusing on writing various films and TV pilots with BIPOC and LGBTQ characters. We recently completed our latest feature script "Dumplings For Christmas." It's a holiday dramedy about a gay Asian American novelist rediscovering himself after finding out his fiancée is cheating on him. We started pitching to managers and producers through Stage32 and other platforms with a goal to sell or to find reps. It's been an exhilarating journey so far. I look forward to connecting with other screenwriters on here and learning more about your experiences.

David! Really great to have you in the community! It has been great to get to know you over email and I am excited for all your forward momentum. There is actually a big announcement about an executive from a production company who just joined Stage 32. She is particularly interested in reading TV pilots with BIPOC and LGBTQ characters. Check your email at 11:30am!
