Hello Stage 32 community! I’m a doctoral researcher in high-end TV drama and part of my industry focused research includes literary adaptations. I also do archival historical research for literary adaptations (pro Bono consultancy work so far) and I’d love to do more because there is so much scope for creativity in high-end serial adaptations if you go in depth and look at them from multiple perspectives. Anyone sharing my interest I’d love to connect with! Happy weekend and greetings from Italy!
Excited to have you a part of Stage 32 Giulia. Sounds like a fascinating project you’re working on. Keep us posted!
That research sounds fun! Welcome to Stage32!

Thank you so much everyone -- I really appreciate your interest and comments, so much welcome, especially because when you're a researcher, albeit an industry-focused researcher (or precisely because of that!) you need to see if your research is going in the right direction, which is the industry and its progress, needs and developments. To give you just a 'taste' of what I'm demonstrating investigating two high-end international coproductions based on two MAJOR literary masterpieces (Italian best-selling novelists with international scope, particularly in the US!) and co-led by the Italian industry, what I'm showing is that literary adaptations require a full incorporation of writers' worlds and intellectual trajectories to succeed in production terms. A literary adaptation is NOT a book adaptation: it is a mutual adaptation of many elements, visible and invisible. Only with this in mind can a production work properly, and even contribute to establishing new production models. Sometimes producers may think the lack of production efficiency and things working properly depends on other elements, but in fact, the perspective should be moved onto the meanings and implications of 'adaptation' and the writer's world behind it, not only ahead of it. This research also aims to be functional to serial development in fact.
But I don't want to bore anyone -- so happy to share this with you all indeed!

Thank you so much for your comment and kind words Samitra, and congrats on what you do! I strongly believe industry and industry-focused scholarly research should build a stronger bridge and constructively work together (not just connect) because there is so much we can contribute each other through our mutual expertise and skills! It'd be really nice if Stage32 also became the site for this 'bridge' and really not just share interests but build collaboration and join forces. How great would that be?
