Happy to announce that my micro short film, Little Giant, was recently awarded Best Science Fiction Film at the 2021 fall Austin Micro Film Festival!
I wrote, directed, and filmed this 4min short in the fall of 2018. The film stars my two daughters, with a guest appearance by our neighbor. We added two extra shots in fall of 2020 and I finally finished the animation and VFX this past September. I spent a few dollars on 3D models and music, but otherwise used gear I already owned.
Very happy to have all our hard work and patience pay off! Hopefully more good news to come as we head into winter.

Congratulations!
What's the next step? Is there one - or - will you bask in the win?

I've entered several other fests - just won't hear back into December and beyond. Not much of a market that I know of for micro shorts, though I'm always looking. I'll eventually put it on YouTube. In the meantime, I'm diving back into the heavy VFX editing on a longer, 14-minute-ish, short film I took a break from to finish this one. Plus, always trying to get the word out - would love to work on other's films!
What genre is your 14-minute-ish film, Sean Foy?

Congrats
Congratulations, it looks like it could possibly also be a book/comic and maybe go transmedia.

Maurice Vaughan the 14-minute short is also Sci-Fi. We shot about 90% of it on greenscreen in my garage - so lots of VFX work to do! I'll be doing even more animation on that one - walking/talking teddy bear and his teddy bear army. thanks for asking!

Thanks, Debbie Croysdale! And funny you should mention the comic idea. We actually turned an earlier film into a comic using actual shots of the film and Comic Life 3 software. Came out looking pretty cool. I still need to use Kindle Comic Creator to digitize it to a better format. We have a series (with my daughters) called The Adventure Girls that I'd love to see as a comic / cartoon.

This has serious “Royal de Luxe's” giant puppets vibes for me and I love that your daughters feature in it too. I need to keep up with this and how you get on just that image and very brief explanation made my ears prick. Not much does either I'm a right miserable git.

hey, Charlotte Webster - thanks for the note! I had to look up the Royal de Luxe and they're AMAZING! Thanks for sharing that. What a huge compliment to even be mentioned alongside their incredible puppets and work!

They are amazing, really incredible if not a bit spooky in some ways. The one that left me in absolute awe when I first saw him up close and personal is “Xolo” the dog. As a lifelong horse / dog owner and trainer and handler for both, I tend to pick up on the little things others might not even give a second thought to and “Xolo” (along with "Joey" from War Horse) absolutely amazed me.
I'm in awe of the puppeteers not just in how skilled they are and the craftsmanship but because of what clearly shows immense time spent researching and studying real life animals they are going to be working so they end up so finely tuned they'll react to things in their surroundings immediately.
When dogs meet Xolo, so many look like they're giving it "Bro, you're the biggest dog I ever saw and you don't look or smell right at all.. but yeah I'll make friends" That's the ultimate test and highest possible accolade :)

I should have included this earlier, Maurice Vaughan, but if you're interested, I have a "making of" video I did awhile back about our next film "PlaySpace" (with the teddy bear army) https://youtu.be/dKMy7VK6bA8
