The 11th edition of the Sarno Film Festival (SFF) wrapped up on 28 November 2021 at the Municipal Theater of ‘Luigi De Lise’.
The statement of the juries of the 11th Sarno Film Festival is as follows:
The juries also considered it right to award an special mention to “The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad with the following reason:
“A film that can – with its poetic nature which is essential characteristics in the Iranian cinema – bring back a face, an experience. And in a certain sense of compensation, to Sahar Khodayari, the “Blue Girl”, who in 2019, at the prospect of serving six months in prison just for attending the stadium to cheer for her favorite team, responded with self-immolation. Sahar Khodayari died a few days later and became a symbol of the oppression perpetrated against women by the Islamic Republic of Iran. A martyr to whom this work pay a moving homage.”
Inspired by true events, “The Recess” explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
“The Recess” has been screened in 64 international film festivals, earning 9 awards.
