Hello, Everyone. I'm Mariana and new to Stage32. I live in a tiny town in Beverly Hills, Florida. Making connections is not easy in such a remote area. I'm a court reporter turned high school ELA teacher at a performing arts magnet school in Ocala. I also read for a screenwriting competition based in LA; and most important of all, I am a screenwriter. Looking forward to some great conversations here!

Hi Mariana, I'm a screenwriter in Hawaii, pretty far from Florida! As a court reporter I'm sure you can see first hand the difference between how people really talk in real life as opposed to properly structured grammer in speaking and writing. My screenplays are pretty much life stories and adaptations.

Welcome to the community, Mariana Convery. I really like the title of your children’s book "Alex and the Attack of the Brain People." Congratulations on "Wi-fi Interrupted" being a two-time semifinalist! :D

Thanks, Maurice! Yes, those "brain people" are killers; the battleground of the mind.

You're welcome, Mariana Convery. Wow, your book sounds even more interesting now! :) Are you planning on adapting it (maybe a movie, show, or podcast)?

Hi Mariana! I live in Orlando! How did you start reading for a screenwriting competition if you don’t mind my asking? Which competition do you read for?

Hi, Olivia. I can't disclose the competition on social media due to bias, etc. However, I looked on job sites and applied. Of course it's only very part time. I'm pretty busy with teaching and raising kids. They put you through a trial of reading a few scripts and providing notes/feedback on many different elements of the script. If it's what they're looking for, you get hired. Hope this helps if you're looking to be a reader. It's a great way to hone your own craft.

Thanks, Maurice! No. It would have to be an animation. That's not really my goal . The book's theme deals with meditation, a passion of mine.

Welcome, Mariana. We’re glad you’re here.
You're welcome, Mariana Convery. I'm a script consultant, so giving people feedback on their scripts helps me learn how to write better scripts. Do you feel the same way since you read for a screenwriting competition?

Maurice, that's why I do it. I teach full time, so I'll pick up scripts on weekends or my free time when the competition is active. I learn so much from reading and giving feedback. I also like doing it because I'm a teacher at heart and feel some readers are way too harsh. There's always something done well in a script, and I always start my feedback there. Then I work on giving constructive feedback versus trashing a writer's baby.

Rosemond, thanks. Yes, I stay very busy! I have three kids at home to nuture and 125 of them at work. I find that teenagers need just as much love and care as the little ones. I take that same attitude into my reading job.

"There's always something done well in a script, and I always start my feedback there. Then I work on giving constructive feedback versus trashing a writer's baby." I do that also, Mariana Convery! :) When I give feedback on a script, I start with the Feedback Section (positive feedback), then the Suggestion Section (constructive feedback/suggestions how to fix problems).

Welcome, Mariana. We recently moved from Sarasota. I have to say I miss Florida but family comes first. Stage 32 has many opportunities! Best of everything to you.
