Introduce Yourself : Screenwriter / writer by Paulo Tullie

Paulo Tullie

Screenwriter / writer

Hello everyone,

My name is Paulo Tullie. I am a screenwriter and writer. I have written screenplays for films and worked on nine scripts, including a trilogy. I did three films and three short films, all in order. I have sent out hundreds and hundreds of agencies and managers, and ALL of them rejected me like that. I have no idea what to do. I am tired of being rejected by people and after people. But these rejections going on will not stop me from writing. I love writing.

Welcome to the community, Paulo Tullie. Congratulations on writing nine scripts and making six movies! Those are big achievements! :D

Rejection is frustrating. Here's two things you can do to get script requests on Stage 32:

#1) Build relationships/network with fellow creatives and industry professionals in the Lounges (www.stage32.com/lounge), the Browse Section (www.stage32.com/people), and the Writers' Room (www.stage32.com/writers-room).

#2) Producers, directors, etc. search for projects on Stage 32, so post your scripts in the Logline Section of your profile.

Hey Paulo! Nice to meet you :) rejection hits hard, I guess everybody on Stage32 has felt it at some point in their life. Keep writing and making connections, both here and in person, you'll get somewhere with agents sooner or later!

Welcome Paulo! Nice to meet you. Glad you're here.

Hi, Sam. Thank you for believing in me, and I thought it would be easy to get acceptance, and getting rejections is difficult.

Paulo Tullie

Hi Luca, I want to say thank you. Getting rejections is hard, and I am new to this Stage 32. But I will not stop writing my screenplay and stories. I am not a quitter, and I am not stopping.

Hi Paulo! I'd say it's not impossible but extremely rare to "make it" as a screenwriter these days just doing screenwriting. You most likely have to also be an actor, producer, and/or director. Go onto IMDB and look at the people the agents and managers you are querying represent: most of them are probably actors, producers, and/or directors who also write scripts. This is not to be discouraging - it's just the reality. You look young enough to still have time to delve into one of the other entertainment-related crafts so don't give up! It helps, though, to know exactly what you are up against and why these agents and managers rejected you so fast. Do not take it as a comment on the quality of your work. Just put yourself in their shoes: you have 20 other clients at the moment, most of whom have active projects going on via their acting or directing work. You're interested in reading their scripts because they have already broken into the industry and hence it will be easier to get their scripts sold and made.
