Last night, I discovered the Feature Screenplay Competition hosted by ScreenCraft, but I cannot decide whether to join it or not. https://screencraft.org/feature/
Which one is more trustworthy: Screenplay Contest or Pitch Meeting?
on pitching, your chances of success are 50/50, either yes or no. in the contest, the chance of success is divided among all participants and this percentage is less than the chance to win at the casino. That's why I don't participate in contests.
Arthur Charpentier What kind of pitch meeting are you talking about? For that matter, what Pitch Meeting is Zachariah asking about? Because if it is a real pitch meeting, it is a matter of sales so there is no guarantee at all. If it is an educational pitch meeting it's for feedback and practice. if it's a "pay to pitch" situation, then the producers guild and IIPG prohibit it as unethical.
Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq, I mean pitching when a script is offered for sale. but training pitching also seems useful to me. in my opinion, contests are only suitable for motivation to write a script in a short time, but personally, failures in contests strongly demotivate me.
Why cant you do both now? Both are long shots for income (making a living wage writing). Contests, in theory, is not about making movies; it is about auditioning for paid work. Practice pitching on this website. And when you think you're ready to compete with peers and mentors, set-up meetings at studio lots, talk to salary execs with ideas to make into movies & tv shows and corporate money to pay. Employment is the endgame for most ppl wanting this occupation.
Zachariah Rosalie Okay, then what is the purpose of a screenplay competition? If you are happy with the development... that's just publishing your ideas for everyone to use, and I hate to say it here, but I don't know any serious producer who is impressed with competition wins, with very very few exceptions. On the other hand, you get ONE chance with a producer so you have to be sure your work is ready (in your best judgement) before you pitch.
