Thanks Amanda! I actually didn’t have any say in what platforms it was released on. The producers I was working with had a relationship with a distributor already. I only really had any control on the creative end. That said, this is my first movie and at this point in my career as a writer-director, it’s really about exposure. So something easily accessible like Amazon is good enough for me. It’s something I can point to in meetings and say “here’s what I did with a tiny budget.”
I think horror is the Wild West of genres. Alex Garland’s “Men” and Sam Raimi’s “Evil Dead” couldn’t be more different and yet they’re both under the horror umbrella. It’s a place where you can explore Drama, Comedy, Action, Arthouse, etc and still sell it. You don’t need huge movie stars either. So yeah, it seems like the area with the most latitude creatively that still makes sense on the business end.
