"I like unformed characters. This may be because, no matter how old I get, I am still unformed myself."
– Akira Kurosawa, a Japanese filmmaker and painter who directed 30 films in a career spanning over five decades. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema.
We are all ever-evolving and forming into hopefully better versions of ourselves constantly. Just realize this is
something that should be happening. Don't try and suppress it or allow anyone else to attempt it.
Grow, learn, educate yourself, repeat.

Maybe that's why I have always loved side-characters the most.

One of my favorite films is Rashomon. "The quicksand of ego" has each character telling a different version of what happened and you're left not knowing what happened. But, it's a great film and "The Rashomon Effect" is a term created as a result of it, where people recall what they choose to instead of what really happened. His Samurai films are masterpieces. I'm glad Lucas and Spielberg financed his later career, films which he couldn't have afforded to make.

Great post, Tammy Hunt! The Seven Samurai is one of my all time favorites. Kurosawa remains one of the great minds in the history of cinema. Thank you for this!

I don't think there's a martial artist in the world who hasn't seen "The Seven Samurai" - for us, it was practically required watching in order to get your black belt. Loved it! It also served as inspiration for Lucas in "Star Wars".

Kurosawa's Ikiru has been remade with Bill Nighy about a civil servant in post war Britain. The film is called Living. Not sure if it got released in the US. Saw it in London a couple of months back with a Q&A with Bill and producer Stephen Woolley.
