Hi everyone. I’m in the newbie, exploring and learning stage right now. I’m wondering if it’s a realistic possibility to consider hiring my own cast and crew, with the help of experts in the industry, to tell my story through a limited tv series.
I’m struggling with the idea of giving up control to tell my story. I also have some serious trust issues.
If it is possible, how do I find trustworthy people to help me? I’m already working with a ghostwriter on the pilot and episode synopses.
I’ve also read a little about the incentives Oregon offers to filmmakers for filming in the state . This would have to be as low budget as possible if I’m going to be doing most of the financing myself.
After the writer, who is the next person I should think about getting involved to help me get my project off the ground?
Just gathering information for now, I may still need to go the more traditional route of selling rights, etc.
Thanks!

It's definitely a realistic possibility, Lisa M. Mark Deuce's suggestion about posting in the Job Section is a great idea. You could also search the Browse Section for cast and crew members (www.stage32.com/browse). And you could find advice and resources for producing a limited TV series in the Lounges (www.stage32.com/lounge).

Hi Lisa M - I love your ambition and wish you the greatest success with this project!
In terms of who to hire next - I agree that the Job Section is an amazing tool for you to utilize as this community has such talented members.
Once you have the scripts written, a line producer to give yo a realistic budget would be my next hire. That way you have a realistic plan and financial model for production. The next wave would include a director, your lead cast (which the director can hopefully help with in some ways) and a production manager to oversee the whole work flow experience. The rest of the key hires, cast and crew can follow.
The film commission can probably be helpful with some hires and definitely with locations, permits and other resources so I would have a meeting with them to explore all that they can do to help you.
Please keep us in the loop on your progress. I am such a fan of independent production!

Hi! Definitely hire a producer who has relationships in the TV world to advise you on what is being picked up and how the IP can travel globally. For example being one of those producers myself I can tell you that the new "sweet spot" is 4-6 hours maximum. Some series are even picked up at 3 episodes if they have great storyelling and cast who has been on previous successful shows.

Hi Lisa! I definitely think a Producer after your Writer is the best route to go, they’ll be the ones getting you the parts you need for your vehicle!

Wow, thanks everyone for all of the amazing advice and support! I don’t have much time to respond right now, but I’m going to review everything and comment more this weekend.
